How to Get a Good Nights Sleep

Happy first day of Fall & happy Friday!! I hope everyone has some fun weekend plans.

So sleep… It’s so important for your body to get the right amount of sleep!

I need at least 8 hours of sleep a day. I’d love it if I could average 9 hours, but I average about 7ish. And let me tell you, 7 hours just doesn’t cut it. Especially if I’m sick, which I AM right now and I have no idea why. I never get sick *eye roll*.

I think the norm for most people is about 6-7 hours of sleep a night. That may be because you don’t sleep through the night very well, you go to sleep too late and have to wake up too early (ME), you have too much going on that you just can’t get enough sleep, or you’re my bf and prioritize playing Destiny 2 over sleep. Like he literally played until 4am when it was first released, and the dude is supposed to wake up for work by 6am, HA.

To some it seems like sleep is a huge waste of time. To me, I’m like this is my favorite time of the day- laying in my bed and letting my body relax to the fullest. If you suffer from getting to sleep or staying asleep, keep reading this post!

Tips for being a good sleeper:

» Drink plenty of water during the day. If you go to bed dehydrated, you don’t sleep nearly as well.

» Rub Lavender Body Oil on your neck and hands. Lavender is very calming so it relaxes the mind.

» Put Lavender Oil in your diffuser and let the diffuser run by your bed. I also like to combine Lavender and Eucalyptus Oil together! Lavender is soothing and Eucalyptus is an antibacterial and deodorant, so it cleanses the air.

» Give yourself five to ten minutes of stretching right before climbing into bed. Stretching reduces stress, therefore it’s perfect right before bed. When you can release stress, you can fall asleep much easier.

» Meditate right before bed. This is also a stress reliever because you’re letting go of any tension you built up during the day. You’re also freeing your mind because your mind becomes completely empty, so there’s not a million things zooming around up there. When you’re mind is clear, you’re able to close your eyes without having your mind wander.

» If you can’t meditate or prefer not to, grab an actual book to read. For most people, reading can make you sleepy. It’s also a lot better to read a book right before bed than to look at your phone. When you’re on your phone before falling asleep, you lose track of time and before you know it, you’ve been on your phone for 40 minutes or longer. The light from your phone screen also makes your brain believe that it’s still light outside, so when you go to put your phone down, your mind isn’t ready to fall asleep.

» Get a work out in during the day. That could be going to the gym, going for a walk or jog, going to yoga class (my current favorite!), or doing a work out at home. Again, working out is a stress reliever and makes your muscles tired. Those are both great things when it comes to wanting to get a good nights sleep!

» Finally, this may not work for everyone but, I love to list the things I’m grateful for when I close my eyes. Sometimes I’ll list the things that made me happy during that day. I do this because then my last thoughts are “happy thoughts”. I’m focusing on the good, rather than the bad. And I ALWAYS fall asleep during the process!

I hope these little tips can help you in some way! Let me know what you do to get a good nights sleep.

Giving you the Low Down on Acupuncture & Acupressure Mats

Acupuncture works, people. & I mean it seriously works.

I did it one time and immediately felt so much better after my treatment. I almost can’t believe I waited this long to try it.

If you don’t know what acupuncture is, let me tell you: Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for centuries. It’s based on the theory that energy, called chi, flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians. It is to be believed that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your chi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow back into balance.”

Before I start, make sure if you’re getting acupuncture done that you’re going to an appropriately trained practitioner who is nationally certified and licensed by your state.

Before my treatment, I did a consultation with my practitioner. During the consultation we discussed what I wanted to see out of my treatment. I wanted to see my tension be released, reduce my anxiousness, and relieve my stress.

That’s exactly what she did. She placed one needle in-between my eyebrows (this one felt the best by far), a couple on each wrist, one on my thigh, a couple on each ankle, and one on the top of my foot.

She told me to relax and not have my body be tensed up. If I was tense then I wouldn’t have a good acupuncture experience. If I relax then I’ll fall asleep, which is exactly what happened. I fell asleep right away and stayed asleep for the full 50 minutes. When I woke, I felt refreshed. I didn’t feel confused or foggy like the way you do when you wake up from a midday nap. The whole experience was incredible. It’s not even a question if I’ll go back.

So yeah, ditch the anxiety medication and try this wellness treatment!

My practitioner said to do an acupuncture treatment once a week to see long term results.

I’m sure many of you are wondering if the needles hurt or are scary. I’ve never had a problem with needles, so I didn’t find them to be scary whatsoever. The placing of the needle into the skin doesn’t necessarily hurt, but you do feel it. The needle doesn’t go far into the skin, so once the needle is in, you don’t feel it at all.

If anyone suffers from anxiety, stress, depression, or digestive problems try out acupuncture to see how you like it. It may be the perfect thing you’ve been looking for, or it may not be and that’s okay!

Intimidated by acupuncture or can’t really afford it? Don’t worry, I have you covered!

This little dude is called an Acupressure Mat or a “Bed of Nails”.

& it works wonders right from your home, I swear.

My favorite is the pillow. I use the pillow while I read almost every night before bed. It helps reduce any tension I have in my neck and shoulders, takes my anxiety away, and calms me.

My boyfriend thinks I’m crazy because I’m laying my head on a bed of nails. He also thinks it hurts like hell. But I love it. I can take the hurt. It’s a good kind of hurt, but I have an extremely high pain tolerance. Most women do, at least compared to men!

According to Bed of Nails, Bed of Nails® is similar to acupuncture; the pressure of the rounded nails against the skin may help the body release endorphins, the body’s very own “happiness drug” which provides a sense of joy, energy and pain relief, and oxytocin, which induces a sense of calm (yes, it is possible to feel energetic and relaxed at the same time!). Bed of Nails is an excellent self-treatment for stimulating energy in the body. While triggering the body’s innate way of healing itself, it is an effective tool for easing tension and inducing a state of deep relaxation. Bed of Nails may also help the body rid itself of toxins, so it is important to drink water after using Bed of Nails. Everybody reacts differently to Bed of Nails, and the effects can even vary from time to time; after using Bed of Nails, you may feel tired, hungry, happy, alert. Many people experience feelings of happiness, relaxation, improved circulation, heightened body temperature, increased vitality, and a clearer state of mind.”

More about the Acupressure mat:

The mat is made up of 8000 acupressure points that provide that instant relief. You want to try to use the mat or pillow daily for 20-30 minutes to see the best results. I find laying on the mat with a light shirt on works the best. You can lay on the mat with no shirt but the points on the mat could potentially be too uncomfortable for some people. The mat is great to use on sore muscles. If regularly used, the mat can improve your digestion, provide pain relief, reduce stress, reduce the signs of cellulite, and help with insomnia.

Like I said, I love to use the pillow before I go to bed. It really takes away any anxiousness I built up throughout the day and it relieves any stress I may have. It’s also perfect to use when I have a headache. I hate taking ibuprofen to relieve headaches so the pillow really is useful! You can buy the mat and pillow on Amazon and they’re extremely affordable!

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding acupuncture or the acupressure mat, I’d be happy to answer!!

Things I can’t Live without

Happy Friday!

The weekend is approaching, which means so is my birthday!! I’ve always loved my birthday because, 1) I love being a Gemini, 2) I love that it’s in June because that means summertime, so there’s always so much I can do to enjoy the day with friends & family, 3) I’m an only child so I used to get SO spoiled on my birthday, LOL (sorry, not sorry!), and 4) Even though I’m getting older, I’m grateful to be able to celebrate another birthday!

In honor of my birthday, I’m going talk about some things I absolutely cannot live without! I don’t like to make my blog too much about myself, I don’t just want to talk about me, me, me. I want my readers to be able to take things away from my blog, things that are valuable and useful for them too, so that’s why there will be some items on here that I’ll specify why YOU can’t live without them either!

The things I can’t live without:

× The Dodo on Facebook and Snapchat. Their stories constantly make my whole day and they usually leave me in tears.

× My family, friends, & boyfriend, but that’s a given! & of course, all of my animals – Loki, Odin, Apollo, Marvin, Makade, and Zeus (RIP to Jed, Chicklet, & Thor ♥). If I’m being completely honest, all animals in general!

× I’ve got this thing for blankets & soft pj shirts, it’s actually kind of obnoxious.

× I love, love, love breakfast food. If I’m going out to eat, I want to go out to eat for breakfast, always. Eggs, biscuits, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, french toast. You name it, I love it!

× I’m obsessed with water bottles, Tj Maxx & HomeGoods, laying out in the sun (with sunscreen & a hat), being outdoors, getting massages, the color white, essential oils, exfoliating my skin, facial masks, epsom salt, Coconut & Vitamin E oil, music festivals, candles, naps, & Netflix!

The things I can’t live without and neither should you:

× Sunscreen!!! If you’re ever outside, always wear sunscreen to protect your skin. I put sunscreen on my face, hands, & neck constantly throughout the day because that’s where your skin is the most delicate and sees a lot of sun.

× Amazon & AmazonSmile, because they have everything I always need with free two-day shipping. What is better than that!?

× Working out! It’s a great stress reliever, it clears my mind, & makes me feel good about myself.

× Rosehip Oil!! This one is a must if you want a good moisturizer to use, regardless if you have dry or oily skin. It works wonder!

× Recycling! I recycle everything I possibly can, & you should too. It saves the environment, which should be important to everyone.

× Farmers Markets! The fruit and veggies are usually fresh and organically grown. The baked goods are homemade and have natural ingredients. You’re supporting local businesses and farmers. & they usually have a great floral tent that offer good prices!

× A white pair of cute sneakers because they go with everything!

× A cute planner to keep your life organized! My planner goes with me wherever I go, it’s a necessity for me.

× Almond and Coconut Milk, because it’s so much better for you than cows milk and also has more calcium. Also, the animal agriculture industry treats dairy cows horribly. Don’t believe me, watch Cowspiracy on Netflix.

× I’m obsessed with water bottles because I drink a ton of water. Water is so important for you! It keeps you full, hydrates your body, gives your clearer & brighter skin, gives you energy, and is way better for you than tea, pop, etc.

I’m sure there’s probably way more I could list but I think this list is becoming a bit extensive as it is!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, & let me know below what you can’t live without!
